The Obituary Roger Cook didn't want you to see Roger
Cook 'shuffled off this mortal coil' on 15 June 2026. The glowing
Obituaries which followed in the Mass Media listed his many programmes
and achievements,but not a single one of them mentioned or commented on his notorious Cook Report special on SRA, one of the last 'documentaries' he ever made. Why? Because it was one of the biggest Hoaxes in Television history and fools thousands even today.
Cook's hour-long THE DEVIL'S WORK was the epitome of the genre he himself created and turned out to be utterly and wholly untrue in every claim it made. It basically duped nine million viewers into believing in a phantom, and was key in kick-starting the Satanic Panic of the 1990s. A hysteria of historic importance which lasted until the government's own special inquiry into it pronounced it all fiction in 1994 and which, by that time, had destroyed the lives of 86 children and their innocent parents. Today of course, with hindsight, all sane individuals scoff at the very
idea that a network of hidden Satanic groups are abusing, sacrificing
and
eating '4,000 children a year' across the UK, but during the Satanic
Panic, which Roger Cook engendered, the public imagination became much
less sane. The lies were SO big, SO outrageous, SO impossible NOT to believe, that almost every single person in
authority jumped to back the idea that SRA existed and hundreds of false cases
were generated wasting an estimated £100 Million pounds of resources
and destroying faith in previously respected institutions like the
NSPCC which worked directly with Cook's Team to eagerly jump on the SRA
bandwagon. At
that time and up until 1994 the SAFF was the ONLY organisation to
publicly decry the lies and publish the Truth of all the false cases
which got to court. Most people just trusted in what Cook had falsely claimed. For our pains in simply sticking to the Truth we were vilified, falsely accused of being 'paedophile apologists' and generally treated like radical liars with a hidden agenda, instead of the saviours of society which we actually were. In this climate Cook and his ilk were able to get away with the most atrocious implications which no decent journalist, then and now, would ever consider using. Roger Cook and his team played on atavistic prejudices and fears deep in the human subconscious, and like all witch-hunters before him, profited from it immensely. Cook was wrong, wrong, wrong, about SRA but he didn't care. The lie was too big, too enormous to own up to, so the creep just kept on compounding his deceit throughout his life and insisting he was right in the first place. He could have said he was sorry to Chris Bray, and the other people he had falsely accused but instead he doubled-down on his lies, whilst his CTV contract enabled him to evade accountability by crushing any opposition with law-fare which priced his victims out of justice. The document reproduced below, is the SAFF 'Quiz-master' web-page which Roger Cook ordered to be Banned from the Internet in 2002. He demanded that Central Television, a multi-million pound organisation, use their company lawyers to put pressure on the SAFF's website providers, who instantly capitulated and closed down the SAFF site without even telling us or allowing an appeal! They would not even enter into correspondence about it. Our ISP said they could be destroyed by CTV, and the SAFF was just a flea on the arse of a pig, so we could get lost. But you can't be sued for telling the Truth, so we immediately instigated TWO new SAFF sites with different ISPs. One as a replacement and another as a backup, to avoid the public losing all the valuable facts and other unique truths from our on-line Research Library about the LIES concerning Satanic Ritual Abuse which were at that time widely believed. That was a mountain of unnecessary work for our whole team, took weeks and for a fledgling organisation with limited resources, cost a great deal. It lost all our successful meta-data on the net and made us 'invisible' for some months, but we had to be sure that another cowardly ISP did not capitulate to the multi-million pound CTV and rob the people of access to the false claims surrounding the SRA controversy. To be sure of continuing our work, when our new websites went live we reluctantly censored the 'Quiz' web-page Cook specifically complained about, took those pages down and instead put up a 'placemarker' just as you see it below (first example). This ban remained in force for 24 years. Now that evil Roger Cook is dead and his guaranteed one million pound legal indemnity contract with CTV has ended you can at last see the facts he didn't want his public to see, below. Like all SAFF research, it stands up well to the passage of time. Some of the claims that the News of The World made against Cook in their expose of his TV tricks and practices they could not prove (all anecdotal, he-said-she-said comments). The NoW apologised in print for those, after an 18 month long legal battle with Cook - everything else in our page was bang-on-target. They always have been. Ironically Cook was SO paranoid about an imagined 'conspiracy' against him that he actually wrote in his last book 'More Dangerous Ground', summing up his TV career, that the SAFF were in league with the News of the World who were out to destroy him. You can see how asinine this is when you look at the multitudinous instances where the News of the World pushed the Satanic Ritual Abuse narrative in hysterical headlines! We had no contact with the News of the World concerning Roger Cook. We were not part of any conspiracy of any kind. This completely untrue and speculative lie is typical of Cook's responses in relation to the SRA panic. After all, he did tell nine million viewers in the UK, via his 'Devil's Work' , that he had found 21 definite cases of SRA within Britain - and in the intervening 37 years not a single one of those cases ever came true. NOT ONE.  On
the SAFF's voluminous website you can find other examples of SAFF reports which
Cook railed at over the years but which he could not bully us to
censor. But that did not stop him from trying to pull the wool over your eyes. One would be the amusing instance where Chris Bray actually bumped into Cook in Malaga airport face-to-face and doorstepped him in reverse. The master-doorstepper had just been doorstepped by one of his victims! And we had a photo of it happening as proof! That really upset Cook and he demanded we take that web-page down because, get this, under then newly enacted Human Rights Law in the U.K. it 'invaded his privacy', solely because we had mentioned the location of his home address. . But SAFF did not publish Cook's home address, we simply mentioned the locality. We weren't doxing him. It would not be possible for anyone to pin-point his actual address (even though we had it exactly) from the locality we gave, yet he was apparently so outraged that the SAFF had managed to discover his home, that his legal attack dogs demanded we take that page down. Clearly, this was proof of Cookies' hypocrisy. He had earned millions from invading the privacy of others in his televised 'doorstepping' finales outside THEIR homes, yet was here bleating about the SAFF reversing the treatment! Cook moaned that ' we were inviting his enemies to take action against him'. The idea was bonkers. If we had wanted to dox him to some imagined mafia hit-man or IRA executioner why would we publish it? We could have quietly emailed the info to admin@sinnfein.ie ! Clearly we did no such thing, our intention was to show Cook that hiding in a leafy property barricaded by 10 foot walls and electronic gates did not put his SRA lies beyond the reach of Justice. What we actually published was: 'Safe behind the electric security gates of his swish Limpley Stoke Mansion, near Bath, Cook has remained out of the limelight since his last series'. That was it. No photo, no indication of whereabouts his home was in Limpley Stoke. There are hundreds of mansions and luxury houses in Limpley Stoke! Besides it wasn't the address he was really worried about, was it? It was the fact that he had been 'doorstepped' by a victim who was fighting back. That's what he wanted to keep from his press and public. The false claim of doxing was the lawyerly path to censoring the whole story. We told his CTV lawyers to get lost and said we would delete all the address details and keep the rest of the page up on the web. In summary. In 1989 when Roger Cook's influence and power within the British Media was at its peak he thought he was King of the heap. He presumed he could do nothing wrong and took a step too far. He destroyed his reputation with a Tabloidesque documentary on a supposed national threat of Satanic Ritual Child Abuse which had no basis whatsoever in fact. A shock-horror story too good to miss. So his programme FABRICATED a narrative to suit the rumours. The Devil's Work can now be seen as an object-lesson in how far the Media will go to control and direct the mind of the Masses. Cook and his team employed the most devious media tricks possible; slight of hand, deceitfulness, partial reporting, constructive entrapment, fraudulent implications and downright criminal false editing of historic interviews, to convince 9 million people in Britain that they should be outraged, then he blamed it all on Chris Bray, an innocent Leeds bookshop owner. Chris Bray discovered Cook's plan to victimise him months in advance, when one of Cook's 'expert advisors', Dianne Core, threatened him with an 'upcoming Cook Report'. Mr Bray wrote to Cook beforehand providing him with inside information about those fundamentalists, including his 'expert advisors' whom Cook allowed to scope his programme, and tons of documentation about false claims of SRA in UK and USA. Mr Bray did this on February 2nd 1989 six months before Cook had finished his Devil's Work (eventually broadcast on July 17th that year) but Cook had made his mind up to shaft Mr Bray and STILL went ahead regardless.  Shortly
after The Devil's Work was broadcast the hatred against the bookshop Cook had falsely
implicated in that utterly untrue narrative was so great that it was firebombed by
fundamentalist fanatics causing the shop to close down. As time passed and the SRA cases Cook had claimed began to collapse, one by one, it became clear even to outsiders that there was something wrong with the program. Yet Cook did not 'fess up', nor did he apologise, instead he consistently and purposefully over several decades added to his lies to persecute the bookshop owner further - even though the Broadcasting Complaints Commission found him at fault and had specifically told him NOT to do that in their official hearing which he attended in 1990. A completely innocent man was chosen by Cook for persecution. Not because he had done anything wrong, but because, by daring to provide a full spectrum of philosophical and religious belief, he had upset the extremist Bible-Thumpers who then made up lies about him and fantisised about false SRA cases, the very same false tales Cook used in the programme to carry his narrative. It was the worst kind of Trial by TV possible. The bookshop owner was simply providing freedom of thought and speech, but how dangerous is that when 95% of people live in a fearful world of their own psychosis due to imposed ignorance like that which Cook engendered? Long before Freedom of Thought and Speech were a 'thing', decades before the fad to 'Cancel' alternative political and philosophical views became fashionable, the forces of repression honed their axes on the utterly mythical Satanic Ritual Child Abuse Myth. Cook was largely responsible for hyping that hysteria. When the bookshop owner fought back with facts Cook's defenders began to defer blame to his Cook Report Team, he was, they said, just a figure-head and did not write the script or do the research himself. Cook was no fool. He vetted everything. He saw the Satanic Panic was falling apart in front of him, yet continued to hound Mr Bray over the years, changing his tack to try to portray Mr Bray as a lunatic radical false accuser himself! If you can't counter The Facts, attack the sanity of the person offering them eh? The despicable acts Cook took, in order to keep his big money rolling-in were legion, including having his 'last word' in his book More Dangerous Ground, published in April 2007. The vile Cook did not take this opportunity to assuage his false claims or even posit a seed of doubt, he instead doubled-down on attacking the bookshop owner with more lies, in a special chapter which tried to rewrite history and reinforce the lies in the minds of his followers. Cook took one last try to portray Mr Bray as an Arch-villain whilst reinforcing the heinous lies in his 'Devil's Work' 18 years earlier! His intention was to swamp history. To distribute more lies than Mr Bray could distribute the Truth, so that Lies would become the Facts of the Future, like something out of Orwell's '1984'. Even though in the 18 years which had passed since Cook broadcast his 'Devil's Work' there had not been a single case of SRA proven through the courts. Not one. Every SRA case Cook warned you about in his documentary was FALSE. The SRA myth was not a crusade to save children, it was an act of pure religious hatred. Religious prejudice designed to crush a spiritual freedom-fighter, whilst duping, confusing and keeping the Plebs ignorant. For that Cook's legacy is his unadulterated shame which follows him into history. “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Exceptionally bad luck seems to have dogged Cookie and his cohorts
ever since this programme. The £700,000 libel bombshell was the last straw.
Has Cookie been cursed?
Within months Cook was brought to book at a Broadcasting Complaints Commission
hearing which found his team guilty of unfairly victimising Mr
Chris Bray, the bookshop owner. Such admonition had never happened
to Cookie before. Something different was occurring. The tide was beginning
to turn against the Taped Crusader.
In the meantime the father of a man featured as a Satanist by Cook
complained to CTV that his son had never been a Satanist nor a member of
a Satanic group! Cook's The Devil's Work was beginning to look more
like the script for a Carry On film than a serious documentary.
Unfortunately for Cook and Mrs Davies, Victoria Macdonald of the Sunday Telegraph
wasn't as gullible and later pressed Maureen Davies in what was to become
her last interview to the press. Maureen admitted that ' she had never
had to deal with anyone younger than a teenager' and that victims 'are
rarely
children'. So the Devil's Work had been ALL ABOUT the supposed Satanic
Abuse of children yet their ace expert SRA adviser had never met
any!
As if these occurrences weren't enough to cause a seed of doubt in Cook's
mind the next crisis was a body-blow to the Taped Crusader. Cook's
Chief researcher on The Devil's Work was Tim Tate, a colleague who had
worked with Cook during his Checkpoint days and with him co-authored a book
titled ' Know Your Rights'. The irony of this became apparent when Tate was
made to apologise in court for libelous statements concerning police involvement
in the Broxtowe Child Abuse Case which was heavily featured in the Cook Report
and formed a considerable part of Tate's ill-fated book, 'Children
